Northern Hay
Situated on the very edge of the natural haven called Mudumalai, The Wilds at Northern Hay is spread across 98 acres of wilderness and an ancestral coffee plantation.
Secluded, away from everywhere, this is where the wilderness comes to your doorstep, and beckons you; this is where you realise that you’ve forgotten the real meaning of life – the one that comes with your roots, your habitat, your planet. This is where solitude, bliss, reflection and a sense of being close to nature is prime. And that’s what The Wilds at Northern Hay is all about.
A DEN AMIDST THE WILDERNESS
Once an ancestral coffee warehouse where the world’s finest coffee was stored, the House in the Wilds is divided into a hall, dining room and several charming areas where one may relax. This, coupled with all amenities, makes the House a true combination of comfort and wilds.
LIVE AMIDST THE WILDERNESS
All rooms are doubles with chairs, writing table, dressing table and more. Refreshingly different and quite eclectic, each room combines a rustic spirit with the luxury of feeling truly pampered. With well-appointed bathrooms and all the comforts of good living, staying here is a real treat.
Tree House: You could, if you prefer, choose to stay in our luxurious tree house and get a bird's eye view of the surrounding area.
The Library Room is also the common room where you can pluck out a sheaf of papers on the wildlife of the region or sit down in a lazy chair with your favourite bestseller.
AND WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO TODAY?

Northern HayThe Wilds is not about how old you are, or how wild you want to be. Be it for the family, the reclusive nature lover, amateur photographer or even the “I do” couple, there’s always something to see and do ... with surprises at every turn - even if you choose to laze around in an easy chair on the lush lawns, you’ll get to see a plethora of animal and bird life (some that’ll come for a quick rendezvous right up to the doorstep of the house).
GREAT FOOD AMIDST A GREAT VIEW
The Dining Hall: The dining hall has quaint antique chairs and dining tables, perfect for a candlelit dinner. Lunch and dinner are served here or outside, and are charged as per need. The menu is limited, but the food is undeniably the finest in the area.
The Platform: The Platform offers you almost a perfect 360 degree view of the plantation and the forest beyond. Enjoy a barbeque or just lounge the night away…
WILDLIFE
Apart from a frequently-sighted panther, there’s elephant, nimble-hoofed gaur, shy deer, tree squirrel, majestic eagle, civet, the hardly-seen barking deer, striped hyena, dhole, hawk owl, magpie robin, spotted babbler, whistling thrush, quail, brown dove and just about every other form of life that this dense forest is known for. You could also just sit round the house, or on the lawn, socialising and exchanging pleasantries with your fellow guests (if you’re lucky it may just be one of our frequent celebrity guests).

With a surrounding landscape that includes semi-deciduous forest, coffee plantations, grassy knolls and a stream, The Wilds offers a varied and distinctive experience. Whether it’s for the family, nature lover, amateur photographer or bird-watcher, there are surprises at every turn. Even while lazing in an easychair on the veranda, you will get to see quite a bit of animal and birdlife as there are occasions when they come exploring right up to the lodge.
The Wilds includes a luxurious annexe, Kalmalai, which comprises three double bedrooms and a wraparound veranda which affords the finest views of the hills and grasslands in the area.
